How much does a business website cost in India?
A useful website quote depends less on the number of pages alone and more on what the site must help customers do. This guide explains the main cost drivers and how to compare proposals fairly.
An educational guide from Pixel Devs. Requirements and costs vary by project, audience and delivery scope.
Start with the job the website must do
A basic online presence, a lead-generation website and a transactional web application are different products. Before comparing prices, write down the primary outcome: explain a service, collect enquiries, publish a catalogue, accept bookings, take payments or support logged-in users. Each additional workflow affects design, development, testing and maintenance.
What changes the project budget?
- Scope and page types: A small set of reusable pages is usually simpler than many unique layouts, filters or interactive tools.
- Design requirements: A customised visual system, responsive layouts, motion and accessibility testing require more design and implementation time than a lightly adapted template.
- Content: Writing, editing, photography, illustrations and product data need planning. Supplying complete, approved content can reduce delays.
- Integrations: Payment gateways, booking systems, maps, CRM tools, email services and third-party APIs add setup and testing work.
- Accounts and administration: Login, roles, dashboards, saved data and admin workflows introduce security and privacy responsibilities.
- Quality and support: Device testing, performance work, backups, updates and post-launch support should be discussed explicitly.
Ask what is included in the quote
Request a written scope that names the page types, features, content responsibilities, revisions, integrations, delivery milestones and acceptance criteria. Ask who owns the domain, hosting account, source code, design files and third-party subscriptions. Clarify whether the quoted amount includes taxes, hosting, email, maintenance and future changes.
Compare proposals by deliverables, not just totals
A lower quote may exclude content entry, mobile testing, deployment or support. A higher quote may include custom design, integrations or a longer support period. Compare like with like: same requirements, same assumptions and the same definition of completion.
Plan for ongoing costs
Domain renewal, hosting, business email, paid plugins, payment processing, security updates and content changes can continue after launch. Some are annual or usage-based. Ask for a simple list of recurring charges and who will manage each service.
When a website is ready to quote
A useful brief can be short: what the business does, who the audience is, the main action visitors should take, examples of sites you like, required features and an approximate launch window. If some details are unknown, mark them as open questions rather than guessing.
